Product Description

Organic wild rice is grown in a sparsely populated glacial lake in northern Saskatchewan prairies, Canada. It is natural, organic and nutritious. Wild rice is a species of grass that produces edible seeds resembling rice. However, it tends to have a more pungent taste. The plant grows best in shallow water in small lakes and slow-flowing streams, ideally between 75-90 cm in depth. The seeds ripen in late summer, between mid-August and early September. Northern Saskatchewan is a land of forests and lakes, developed on the glacially-scoured ancient rocks of the Precambrian Shield. The pristine environment of shallow lakes and slow-moving rivers in northern Saskatchewan provides an ideal habitat for wild rice. Saskatchewan wild rice is grown and processed without the use of chemical additives, colourants, or artificial flavourings. The large kernels mature in their natural setting helped only by the sun/ Le riz sauvage biologique est cultivé dans un lac glaciaire peu peuplé du nord des prairies de la Saskatchewan, au Canada. I buy these for my family to help increase the fibre in their diets and it is excellent.

This bag of premium rice is one of the more interesting flavours I’ve experienced. (Organic Wild Rice, 2 LB, Grade A, Full Grain(Around 10-15mm, Canadian North Saskatchewan Organic Ice Lake Harvest Wild Rice , NO-GMO, Gluten free, Vegan, Riz sauvage canadien, Riz sauvage biologique). There is a slightly almost-nutty taste to it that isn’t for everyone, but it is one I find personally satisfying. This bag of rice will last a long time, even though it may seem small at first. Super amazing taste – and Canadian to boot!

  3. SuperE

Although wild rice isn’t a common item in our home. I’m so glad that we’ve had an opportunity to eat it. I actually had no idea that wild rice is cultivated in Canada – literally from the wild. I watched several videos about the history and cultivation of wild rice and find it fascinating to say the least. That said, I did have to look up how to cook it, since no instructions are included on the package. Even though I have nothing to compare it to, it does appear that the quality of this wild rice is quite good, and I do appreciate that this product is certified organic (which likely does add to the price, unfortunately). Wild rice isn’t that hard to cook, and we’ve made it in both our pressure cooker and on the stove top. Unlike regular rice, I don’t find that wild rice is as suited to eating “on its own”, but it works wonderfully well in mixed dishes. The rice takes on a nutty flavour, and it keeps a good texture (when cooked properly!) so it’s not mushy like white rice. I can see us using wild rice in many new dishes moving forward. One oddity I need to point out is that this product is packed by a pharmaceutical company, which seems really strange for a food staple like this. In any case, it’s a Canadian product and I have no trouble recommending it.

  4. Rupal Doshi

Fresh, flavorful & nutty. Love to pair this in any kind of bowls. I used this with the vegan Chili & in a taco bowl. Absolutely delicious & satisfying.

  5. Anonymous

This is a very good wild rice, provided in simple packaging. It’s shipped in a simple ziploc stand-up pouch. Within the envelope, the rice is exceptionally long-grained even for wild rice, with some grains approaching 2″ in length. It has the usual dark, shiny appearance and nutty scent; it cooks up well and has the usual nice, deep, earthy flavor. Wild rice can be a very expensive ingredient, but provided that it’s offered at a reasonable price per ounce, this is a fine choice.

  6. Charli Jo

Far and above better than the other black rice I’ve tried: The minnesota rice imbued up the whole house with farm like barn scent, and even the Lumberg black had stronger smell, and this barely any smell. Nice long grains-longer than others in package, and all is clean. Comes out with pleasant smell good taste. With pre-wash very little tint in water is observed. Best quality on market i’d guess..

  8. Rosie

At first I was intimidated by how long these grains were. But I started slow by cooking it with white rice. I realized it needed to be cooked in water long than regular rice. It taste good and we ended up liking it a lot. And it’s healthy. It comes in a 2lb bag. Worth checking out!

  9. Zhongwei Liu

This product I think is on the more expensive end but it’s worth the money! The grain is very carefully selective and each looks super plump and healthy. The taste is also very good!

  10. Kib

It’s expensive but such a good product. I feel like someone’s out there picking every grain by hand and inspecting it before putting it in the bag.
