   I’ve been using propolis to treat my throat for some time. I’m totally sold on it. This spray format is extremely convenient but also has limited dosages, as each dose requires 4 sprays

   Bee propolis is a byproduct of hive building. Bees obtain it from resinous trees, in this case poplar and Balsam of Peru. There is a warning on the spray bottle to consult a healthcare provider if you have allergies to these types of trees or bee products.

   It contains 30 mls of product, made of propolis, purified water and glycerine. Directions state to pump 4 sprays. It has a NPN, expiry date of May 14, 2026, made in Canada.

   I may have had some ease in my sore throat but the taste is first a hint of bee wax, then yuck! It doesn’t taste great and it lingers for a bit. It’s likely a good product but the taste is off putting for me.

   I should start by saying that it is not possible to objectively evaluate the benefits or the efficacy of such products through ordinary home use. Furthermore, benefits and efficacy of herbal products are, in most cases, not proven by scientific tests either, so I will not comment on those points. In addition, I have not tested this product while having a throat problem either, so I don’t have a subjective opinion yet either. But I would recommend that you use herbal products along with proven medicines, if available, when you are actually having a problem.

   It comes in the form of a spray in a very small and handy spray bottle. The use is quite simple, just 4 sprays at a time, but several times (the label says 3-6 times) per day. My wife and I found the taste pleasant, it is not the best, but it definitely does not taste bad or medicine-like. Don’t expect a taste of honey though, while it is claimed to be produced by bees, it is not honey; remember that bee wax is also produced by bees. I would define the taste minty and peppery.

   The label on the bottle clearly states that it was made in Canada, as the product page proudly indicates that it was from Prairies Saskatchewan. It has an NPN number (Natural Product Number) that can be used to confirm that it was licensed in October 2023. There are 2 brand names (almost the same) associated with the license. It shows that the license holder is DAYCOME PHARMACEUTICALS Ltd.

   The list of medicinal ingredients in the NPN product information page indicates a single ingredient: propolis. The warnings on the page are as follows:

   “Cautions and Warnings

   Consult a health care practitioner/health care provider/health care professional/doctor/physician if symptoms persist or worsen. Consult a health care practitioner/health care provider/health care professional/doctor/physician prior to use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or if you are allergic to bee products, poplar tree products, or balsam of Peru. Consult a healthcare practitioner prior to use if you are allergic to bee products, poplar tree products, or balsam of Peru.”

   The bottle is said to contain 30ml and the recommended dosage is 0.5ml a time, 3-6 times daily, which should have the bottle last for 10 to 20 days if used at the recommended dosage, but I don’t think this is a product that would be used continuously. You would, instead, use it when you have a throat problem, and hopefully that would not last that long. The price of $12 CAD at the time of writing seems affordable, but you have to keep in mind that this is not a proven medicine, but rather an herbal remedy.

   While I cannot confirm the claimed benefits or the product’s efficacy, I see no reason to cut any stars from my rating. I like that it was made in Canada, and I appreciate that it comes with a proper NPN number on the bottle. I found the taste to be pleasant and use to be easy.

   I have been wanting to try a Bee Propolis Throat Spray for some time. I was excited to try this one by Mentalfuel because it is a Canadian company and has a valid NPA number. I have been using it as per the recommended dose of 4 sprays 3-6 times per day. Based on the recommended dose this 30ml bottle should last me 10-20 days. I only use it as needed so this should last me awhile. There is about a 2 year length expiry date. I can say that in my experience this helped elevate some sore throat symptoms. It does not need to be refrigerated after opening. The spray bottle is easily to use. The product is a thin liquid that does not taste sweet like honey. The taste lingers. I personally find the taste to be pleasant.

   For anyone looking for a natural throat soothing spray this is a made in Canada product that is priced well and tastes natural! The taste may not be for everyone, it is pretty floral but in a slightly bitter way. I think it would do better in the taste department if it was chilled and that’s how I play to store it.

   In terms of whether it works or not, well, I think it does. Like honey does this is no different in my opinion. Of course with medical products everything is subjective and may not be the same for everyone.

   Overall it is priced below similar products but is made in Canada! That is a plus in my books and recommended!

   This spray does its job at coding your throat and giving temporary relief of soreness, itchiness, dryness, and it’s super easy to travel with.

    I thought it was a good idea to try this natural spray as an alternative to other commercial ones that have anesthetics. The downside is that it doesn’t reduce pain immediately, so you have to wait much longer for it to take effect. As for whether it works, I can’t be sure.

    It’s easy to apply, and the taste is pleasant and easy to keep in your mouth for as long as needed—at least, that’s been my experience. I should clarify that the flavor is not honey, as the taste of propolis is different.
